Use tab to navigate through the menu items. History of San Jose Scottish Rite The History of the San Jose Scottish Rite dates from May 1883 at the old Auzerais Hotel. On November 26, 1904 a meeting was held at the old Masonic Hall (Rutherford Hall) at the Southwest corner of 2nd and San Fernando Streets, and on March 10, 1908, the initial step was taken toward the purchase of properly with work beginning on the new Center in April 1909. Having outgrown their Center they bought a lot at the corner of 3rd and St. James Streets in San Jose, opposite what is still St. James Park. The doors to the new Center at 2455 Masonic Drive were opened in 1984. The new San Jose Scottish Rite Center is now the supporting entity for a Library and Museum as well as the San Jose Scottish Rite Childhood Language and Learning Disorders Clinic. It is here that the members of the San Jose Scottish Rite Bodies apply their Masonic Craft through their contributions of volunteer time and financial funds so that their vision “INVESTING IN CHILDREN” may be

Use tab to navigate through the menu items. International History of the Scottish Rite The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, as we know it today, had its origins on the continent of Europe. Its immediate predecessor, known as The Order of the Royal Secret, consisted of 25 Degrees under the Constitutions of 1762. Masonic tradition maintains that Lodges of this Rite, transmitted from Bordeaux in France through the West Indies to the American mainland, were established at New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1763; at Albany, New York, in 1767; at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1782; and at Charleston, South Carolina, in 1783. The Grand Constitutions of 1786 provided for an extension of the Rite to thirty-three Degrees, governed in each country under a Supreme Council of the Thirty-third and Last Degree. Its provisions were cited in a Manifesto at Charleston that confirmed the first Supreme Council ever opened under these Grand Constitutions, on May 31, 1801, “by Brothers John Mitchell and Frederick Dalcho.” All regular and recognized Supreme Councils and
