Other groups were also persecuted, including the disabled, Catholics and Freemasons. The forget me not flower was adopted by the Grand Lodge of the Sun ( Zur Sonne ) in 1926 as a substitute for the Square and Compass. This allowed men to identify potential brothers under a regime which suppressed anything not Nazi. Some brothers were involved in resistance movements and smuggling Jews to safety.
