Abe Hinson Lodge - About Search this site Embedded Files Skip to main content Skip to navigation Abe Hinson Lodge Home Events About Contact Abe Hinson Lodge Our History Several members of Lodges in the area signed a letter of request to the Grand Master for the new organization, which was submitted with a message of resolution from Oliver Lodge No. 84 F&AM, recommending the new Lodge. Fifteen (15) signatures were required, but a total of thirty (30) signed; fifteen(15) from Alexandria Lodge No. 398 F&AM, thirteen (13) from Oliver Lodge Lodge No. 84 F&AM and two (2) from Gordy Lodge No. 133 F&AM. Brothers who were instrumental in forming the new Lodge were: Morris Shapiro, PGM Webster N. Berlin, PM Lawrence D. Patterson, PM Louis C. Rasbury, PM Leonard C. Sharbono, PM Richard M. Hailey, PM Clarence A. Filipi Dan H. Hicks Paul L. Terry Richard O. Wilson During their first meeting, they decided to name the Lodge Abe Hinson. The Lodge was named after Abram (Uncle Abe) Hinson, who, during his Masonic life, served as Worshipful Master of Oliver Lodge No. 84 F&AM, Alexandria, La., in 1914. He was a man of high character and integrity and was well-known throughout Central Louisiana. Being proficient in the catechism of the degrees in Masonry, he was instrumental in instructing candidates in the degrees in Masonry. Uncle Abe was born on June 24, 1872, at 10 Mile, Louisiana (between Elizabeth and Grant), and passed away on May 24, 1964, at the age of ninety-two (92)
