official about

About Us O. D. Smith Lodge #33 About Us Masonic Brotherhood refers to the strong bond of friendship and mutual support that exists between Freemasons. The ideals of brotherhood are central to Freemasonry, and members are expected to treat each other with kindness, respect, and tolerance. The concept of brotherhood extends beyond just the members of a single lodge, as it encompasses all Freemasons around the world. Freemasonry can be summed up in this way: “Freemasonry is a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. It teaches us the great lessons of life – of duty, of morality, of brotherhood. It leads us from the material to the spiritual, from the commonplace to the sublime, and from the practical to the philosophical.” - Unknown O. D. Smith Lodge #33 was originally founded as Oxford Lodge #33 on February 8, 1837. Many years later the name was changed to T. S. Gathright Lodge #33 and then changed again to O. D. Smith Lodge #33. O. D. Smith Lodge is chartered under the auspicies of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi, F. & A. M. headquartered in Meridian, Mississippi. Several notable Masons were members of O. D. Smith Lodge: * Dr. Thomas Dudley Isom , founder of Oxford, Civil War surgeon, operated Field Hospital on the campus of the University of Mississippi, 1861-1865. *Jacob Thompson , Graduate of UNC, original member of the UM Board of Trustees, Member of U.S. Congress for 12 years, Secretary of the Interior under President Buchanan, Insp
