At the time, the nearest Masonic gathering place was Golden Gate Lodge No. 245 in Chagrin Falls. While many Solon locals were members there, a large number of newcomers moving to the growing city held memberships in lodges that were a considerable distance away. In 1955, Lucius E. Taylor, a Solon resident and District Deputy Grand Master, recognized the need for a local lodge. After securing the approval of Grand Master Ed. W. Kuns, a list of local Masons was compiled. However, the movement needed a "spark plug" to truly get going. That spark arrived in the form of Worshipful Brother Howard W. Hurless, a Past Master who had recently relocated to Solon. On October 4, 1956, a notice was sent out, and local Masons gathered at the Solon Community Church to officially discuss establishing a new lodge. Earning Our Charter The momentum built quickly. On February 20, 1957, a formal petition signed by 65 brothers—representing 36 different lodges—was submitted to the Grand Lodge. On March 6, 1957, a massive meeting was held at Golden Gate Lodge No. 245, our sponsoring lodge. With 324 members representing 65 lodges
