Zion #7, and instituted in Clinton, Ohio. Samuel H. Smith served as the first Worshipful Master. January 9, 1812: Mt. Zion #7 mistakenly renumbered Mt. Zion #9 in Grand Lodge records. May 23, 1814: First Masonic funeral held in Knox County for Bro. Richard Fishback. March 7, 1817: Meeting place changed from Clinton to Mount Vernon. Meetings held in court house. June 23, 1819: Mount Zion #9 moved to newly built meeting place on North Mulberry Street. January, 1824: Grand Lodge officially re-numbered Mt. Zion as Lodge #9. July 4, 1876: Mt. Zion #9 ceremoniously laid cornerstone of monument to Knox County's citizen-soldiers on Public Square. April 21, 1892: Present site of Mt. Zion #9's lodge dedicated. August 28, 1913: Mt. Zion #9 ceremoniously laid cornerstone of Knox County Jail (Chestnut Street). August 26, 1923: More than 400 Masons attended a special memorial service honoring the late Bro. Warren G. Harding, 29th President of the United States. Memorial Day, 1929: First "Sunrise Raising" conducted. December 23, 1937: An early morning fire was discovered
